Strathfield Municipal Council Case Study
Strathfield Municipal Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The Council comprises approximately 14.1 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 37,000. Strathfield Council currently employs 150 staff members.
Prior to implementing Acendre Performance in 2009, Strathfield Municipal Council was managing its Performance Management manually. Jason Andrew, Group Manager Organisational Performance stated “trying to collate 150 hard copy performance reviews, organize that information in to a spreadsheet and then manipulate and filter the data is a very time consuming process.” He added, “by the time we got to a point where we were comfortable with the information, we had lost a good part of the month.”
Jason also discussed how using a manual system had made it very difficult to align individual work plans with their management plan. He stated “measuring how staff were tracking against our management plan objectives was virtually impossible prior to implementing Acendre Performance.”

In 2009, Jason attended a workforce planning training session where he was shown a demonstration of Acendre Performance product. Since implementing Acendre Performance, Strathfield Council have noticed a number of benefits internally: “the system has allowed us to control the status of reviews and to extract data immediately from the system, enabling us to respond more appropriately to issues before they become bigger than they should be.” Jason added, “after implementation of Acendre Performance, there was a collective sigh of relief from Line Managers.”
Another huge bonus for Strathfield is that Acendre Performance gives employees and Line Managers the ability to clearly define the organisational behaviours, and how they need to perform in order to achieve a certain rating. Jason discussed “Acendre Performance allows staff to have a say in their own performance and as a result, they are much more engaged.”
